During the official Lumia 925 announcement, Nokia revealed that it was working on a major software for the rest of its WP8 Lumia smartphones. The so-called Amber update, which now comes pre-loaded on the Nokia Lumia 925, Lumia 1020, and Lumia 625, was expected to start rolling out by the end of July for owners of the Lumia 920, Lumia 820, Lumia 720, Lumia 620, and Lumia 520. Well, July came and went, but still no Amber has been launched for any of these handsets.

While we can’t say what’s taking Nokia so long, we can assume that the wait is soon to be over. The company’s PR agency in Taiwan revealed that the Amber update should be out by late August or early September at the latest. The Nokia Lumia 920 is being given top priority, meaning that it will likely be the first smartphone to be given its dose of Amber. The Lumia 820, 720, 620, and 520 will follow suit, but not necessarily in that order. Note that the agency may have actually revealed the update’s release time frame for Taiwan, meaning that Amber’s global rollout might be scheduled slightly differently.

The Nokia Lumia Amber update is going to bring a wide array of features to all of the company’s Windows Phone 8 smartphones. The Lumia 920, for example, will get stereo recording during videos, the Nokia Pro Cam application, FM radio functionality, Glance screen for displaying notifications while the phone is in stand-by, and more. A new feature used for blocking specific phone numbers is in tow as well.
