Analyst: 2014 iPhone to feature 4.5-5 inch display

Posted on Updated on

KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has been on something of a roll this year with his Apple product predictions. Most of what he’s said so far has been fairly believable, and he has a decent enough track record (for an analyst). His latest report points towards Apple releasing a larger iPhone in 2014. Specifically, somewhere between the 4.5-5 inch mark was mentioned.

It’s not at all surprising to hear these rumors, since we know that Apple’s been testing larger sizes for years, and regularly prototypes a selection of form factors and display sizes to see how they perform, look and feel. It’s not the first time we’ve heard of larger iPhones this year either. Remember a few months again when speculation emerged of a ridiculously named “iPhone Math”. It was a mythical 4.8-inch screened device that some thought would make an appearance alongside the iPhone 5S this year. Needless to say, that’s probably not going to happen.

Talk of Apple actually releasing different sized devices isn’t as surprising as it used to be. There was a time when Apple would “never” release a smaller iPad because “Steve Jobs said so”. And the iPad mini ended up being a firm favorite among consumers and tech journalists. In fact, many fellow tech bloggers I’ve spoken to on the subject – and myself – have ditched larger iPads in favor of the mini. So, I’m never going to say never to a larger iPhone. In fact, I’d be delighted if there was one.
