Samsung confirmed at its quarterly results press conference for investors today that the 64-bit Exynos chipset it hinted about is ready for the spotlight.

A few “technical preparations” aside, the new silicon should be hitting the conveyor belts this quarter, which means that there is every chance to see it in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 next year. The chip will allows more memory to be addressed, and faster DDR4 units to be used, which Samsung is prepping for next year, too.

Said Galaxy S5 is rumored to be pulled forward for a January announcement and late February launch, due to increased pressure from the competition, and a 64-bit chipset plus a new camera with optical image stabilization and, eventually, a metal chassis, might be just what the doctor ordered for Samsung to regain its flagship master crown.
